Congratulations to Allison Laubach, who just heard that she was awarded a grant from the Dr. Earl H. Myers and Ethel M. Myers Oceanographic and Marine Biology Trust for her proposal to work on cadmium transfer through food webs!

Jong-Mi’s hard work coaxing Mn speciation data out of low level natural particle samples from the East Pacific Rise hydrothermal plume paid off. She finds that near-field pMn has different mineralogy than far-field pMn, and this affects scavenging of several trace elements and isotopes.

Yang Xiang will defend his PhD thesis on Tuesday May 11, 2021 at 9am!

I love this paper–Jong-Mi did some very careful synchrotron analyses of the speciation of pMn in the near- and far-field hydrothermal plume of the EPR. We find that the mineralogy of Mn oxides may be an important parameter that controls the scavenging of many trace elements and isotopes.
